Stella Monachino, although born in the UK, is of Italian descent and is bilingual.
Her current role is Head of Modern Foreign Languages department at an 11-18 school, teaching French, German and Spanish. In addition Stella is an examiner and moderator at both GCSE and ‘A’ level in French and Italian.

She realised that there was a demand for pupils to study Italian, without the timetabling provision at secondary school level. By using the LEA gifted and talented network she was able to offer Italian to GCSE level for Year 10 pupils across a number of schools.

This course has proved to be very successful for the last two years with a high percentage pass rate and a very high average points score. It is hoped that pupils will benefit from this additional stimulus and the interest of pupils in modern foreign languages will be maintained.
